Here's one of my new favourite cycling routes near Horsham. It's a 20 mile loop in a big circle round Horsham on a mixture of quiet country lanes and off-road bridleways. It's not extreme mountain biking, far from it - but that suits me. It's a good route for a quick getaway on your bike - and there are a few pubs on the way which I think I will be frequenting when the weather gets a bit better!

Nice local pub about a mile from Horsham town centre. Walled garden at the back of the pub is delightful in the summer. Last time I was there, after a bike ride, it was the ideal spot to recuperate with a beer or two.

After a hard week working, I find it very tempting to chill out in front of the TV all weekend, perhaps with the occasional few hours not doing anything very productive on the PC. However, I soon start to feel guilty (why?) that I should be doing something slightly more energetic. In my case, that usually means cycling or (easy) mountain biking near Horsham, West Sussex. Even if it's only a short ride, I always feel a lot better for it afterwards. It must be those endorphins or something.

It's very easy to get away from it all by cycling some quiet country lanes (for me, perhaps via a few Horsham pubs) or bridleways, wherever you live. With a bit of basic fitness, it's also quite easy to cover reasonable distances by bike. I certainly feel fitter and lose a few pounds during the summer months when I do most of my cycling. All I need to do now is continue during the winter! That's not so easy when the weather is against you but there's no excuse in the summer. So, get out cycling!

I'm lucky that I have some friends with a hotel in Bude, Cornwall, so it's great to be able to get away and visit for a few days (when they are not too busy running the hotel of course!). I always come back with coastal scenery fresh in my mind and a few walks on the beach are a great way of forgetting about everyday life.

If you don't know Bude, it's on the north Cornwall coast, quite close to Devon. The town has two beaches, Crooklets and Summerleaze, that are connected most of the time. There is a coastal, cliff-top path that stretches north or south from the town so it's easy to take a few longish walks if you want. All in all, there is some fantastic scenery in that part of the UK.

I've heard a lot about Posterous (the blogging platform) but the only way that you can really find out about new things is to try them yourself. I don't have a personal blog, although I write a blog about web design and development, so this is a good opportunity to correct that omission and write about things that I do (probably involving pubs and cycling), find on the web, and/or encourage me to take more photos (but don't hold your breath on that one).
